📝 Weekly Report #4

👨‍🏫 Teaching: We had our schools open evening this week which was a fantastic opportunity to show off some of the great things we are doing in our department. Ended up speaking to lots of parents and potential future students until late in the evening. It's really noticeable how much of a difference a positive attitude towards maths from parents rubs off on their child. When parents are supportive and encourage their child to do well in maths, the child themselves is happy to have a go at activities and shows much more resilience when challenged. Hopefully this bodes well for next year's Year 7s and we have another fantastic cohort.  🔊 Listen: Have done a bit less listening this week as I have started riding my bike to work rather than driving so the podcast have taken a hit. However I have managed to re-listen to James Clears Atomic Habits on Audible. It's a great book with lots of takeaways. I regularly revisit this book and take something new away. This week's th

📝 Weekly Report #3

👨‍🏫 Teaching: At the end of my first full week of teaching after Summer I feel like a bus has hit me! It's been great seeing all my classes again and getting stuck into some maths but it has also been a challenge. My timetable has already changed and everyday seems busy with small little tasks cropping up. I know that next week wil be smoother though because we will be back into the swing of things and there shouldn't be anything major that needs fixing. Looking ahead, I've been given a brand new laptop! So after all of my issues with the battery failing on me on the last one, I can teach worry free now. We are also beginning to plan our Open evening to showcase our department to future students so any good ideas for us to do in Maths would be appreciated.  🔊 Listen: Tim Ferris speaking to Sir James Dyson, in particular the first half. Sir James Dyson talks through his challenges before starting the Dyson company we know now and the numerous failed vacuums he made. Its f

👨‍🏫 T eaching: It's been great to be back teaching again this week and seeing my students again. I'm also super happy that the new initiatives we have implemented into our department are up and running and have already reduced my workload, so I am looking forward to hearing how the rest of the department have found it. I found a really useful resource by Nathan Day, @nathanday314, where he has put together the complete CIMT textbooks on to one pdf. I love CIMT resources and go to them regularly so this has been a big time saver. Check out his tweet here .  🔊 Listen: High performance podcast with Paul McGinley. Paul is a European tour golfer, where he has also captained team Europe. He speaks about empowering others to be the best they can be and helping them to express themselves. Its not about being best but making your team the best. Great one for middle leaders and developing your team's. Have a listen here . 📚 Read: There's been lots of great blog posts about th

📝 Weekly Report #1

This is the start of a new weekly blog post I am putting together, reflecting on my own teaching and highlighting some of the great podcasts, books and blog posts I have learnt from during the week . 👨‍🏫 Teaching: This is where I will reflect on the successes and challenges that I have had during the previous week. I will also look forward to the following week and identify a key focus for the week. Hopefully this will help other teachers in a similar scenario and give some guidance as to how I aim to continue to support student learning. As I write this I am putting together a few resources ready for starting back up on Monday. We have 2 INSET days this year and then Wednesday with just the new year 7s, then back into teaching fully from Thursday. I'm hoping we can get back to normality and have a disruption free year from COVID. This year I also officially begin my new role as second in charge of Maths so I am sure to be reflecting on my challenges and successes I have this yea
